First Take School of Acting: Jodie Comer
She’s the absolute ‘go-to’ actor for the majority of our First Take students.
And following on from her magnificent and totally justified big win at last months BAFTA awards, last week was spent studying in depth and at length the colossus that is Jodie Comer.
From her gob-smacking turn as Chloe in My Mad Fat Teenage Diary, her titular role in The White Princess, Kate in Dr Foster and, of course, the Tsunmai of terror that is Villanelle in Killing Eve, our students celebrated the character work that Jodie puts into all of her roles, asking themselves the question; What is it that Jodie does that’s made her the most exciting actor of this generation?
And there were answers a plenty! From ‘dedicating everything within every inch of her being to her role’, to making ‘super smart choices’ and even ’embracing the fact she’s a lunatic!’. our students then took as much as they could from watching Jodie in action to their own skill sets, utilising that information into creating strong character based performances for the remainder of the class. Unlike Villanelle though, our students opted to stay away from merciless killing for the session!
