First Take School of Acting : Emotional Rollercoaster
It’s been an emotional rollercoaster of a couple of weeks over at the FTSA weekly classes.
If only for the challenges our students have put themselves under to get the very best results and- boy! – they didn’t half challenge themselves some!
Taking scripts from much lauded TV dramas ‘The Handmaids Tale’ and BBC’s recent ‘The Cry’, students took themselves to places that, for most, would have been somewhat excruciating to take on. With subject matter that no-one should ever have to go through, our students created relationships that were electric to witness. With scenes that were heavy going, hard to even contemplate happening in reality and still managing to maintain a connection between actors that was solely built on trust, our FTSA students left the sessions feeling drained and ‘exhausted beyond belief’ – the absolute intention and goal set by FTSA Acting Coach Anthony. So powerful were the performances that he himself stated that come his day off, Anthony broke down in tears himself at home satin front of the telly, such was the gravitas of the excellent commitment and dedication the students brought in bucketloads.
And that’s what it’s about. Abso-flipping-lutely! If your performance leaves you in a state post ‘Cut!’, and even better, leaves the audience reaching for the Kleenex almost 24 hours post watching, then you know you are doing something right.
